hello all, new guy here. i have been reading backlog for days, great site.

i am in the planning stages of building a HD 870.

not sure weather to buy new or to get a used 870.

my question:

is the stock remington parkerized finish more or less durable then the teflon gunkote?.

thanks - bigshooter

870s last forever, little harm comes from buying used.

Darn near any 870 finish lasts if given a little PM.

My HD 870 was made in 1950, first year of production. It's been in goose blinds, salt marshes, and on ranges in MD Augusts while held by my very sweaty paws.

Maybe 20K rounds, probably more like 15K through it.

Zero rust, inside and out, though some of the finish is a bit thin. It's been lubed with everything from SLIP 2000 to 30 wt, but it's been taken care of.

The lesson is obvious.

Only buy used if you can find a cheap one. New Express models are very reasonable.
