I notice they sell as versions with a Mag Saftey and without.. I checked the online manual and don't see any reference to a Mag saftey? What exactly is it?

Here are the S&W skus for the 2 guns.. 209201 (mag safety) 209301 (no mag safety)

I'm trying to figure out what the mag safety is....

The gun will not fire a round in the chamber without the mag inserted. It's a CA requirement for guns purchased in the state. Maybe others have the same requirement.

you can remove the safety yourself; there are online instructions. but it doesn't bother me...

if you get M&P with out it there is a ugly warrning on the slide :barf:

Is that "ugly warning" a sticker that can be removed??

The warning is in gold color lettering (I believe it is a type of laser etching) on the right side of the slide. I have posted a pic of my M&P40 compact and you can sort of make out the warning text, that IM_Lugger is talking about, under the extractor and the ejection port of the slide. Personally, I don't have a problem with it (doesn't bother me that it is there), but I can see how it could be a bit annoying to some.

Apom, the "ugly label" he is referring to is just his way of insulting the best looking of the poly pistols!

As far as the mag safety, it can be removed, but it doesn't bother me. The ones without it from the factory will state that it can fire without a magazine in the gun.
