of your choices, the Monarch UCC is the far better value, in my view - darn good deal at $218 for the 3-9x40.

Spend a little extra and get a Leupold VXlll 3.5-10X50. :) The VXl is a waste of money.:(

Daytime? Varmint hunting?

I've done a couple of prairie dog hunts, one just this recent week. The Leupold Vari-X II in 3x9 worked just fine on my .220 Swift to 400 yards, and on my .223 to 300. I have a 2x7 on my .243, and was having no problems to 300.

Unless you're planning on p-d size on out beyond 400, a 3x9 works okay. A 4.5x14 would maybe be a bit better for Ma Bell shots. For primarily daytime shooting, a 40mm objective lens is plenty.

Since I've always done "set it and forget it" on my hunting rifles, I don't worry about the repeatability of the adjustments. Irrelevant.

I dunno. The Leupold scopes just have cleaner lines, IMO. Less bulky or bulky looking. And they've worked just fine for me for (Sheesh!) forty years. Lordy, no, 44 years! (Dang, I'm gettin' old.)

:D, Art

+ 1 for the vx-11. it's a much better scope than the vx-1 . the nikon is also better than the vx-1, which is leupold only in name- it's made for mass sales/big box stores.

I didn't know either. My point was this guy that started this thread wanted to now if a Leupold or a Nikon scope was beter. Several responded with names of other brands. I figured I would mention Glock just to be a smart alec.:D
