I keep seeing these Mosin Nagant M91/30 rifles get advertised at Big 5. What's your opinion of them? Are they worth the $89.99? Ad says condition varies...from what-to-what, I dunno. What's your take on it?

I own a couple, they are lots of fun to shoot. They make good "truck guns" and a decent spare rifle for any hunting trips.

Ive got one, I plan on buying about 3 more.

they can be very accurate, ammo is cheap, the 7.62x54r round is plenty powerful, which also leads to healthy amounts of recoil.

oh and the rifles are as cheap as rifles get.

I bought one at Dunham's Sports a couple of months ago for $79.95. Came with the sling, cleaning stuff, oil can, etc. The kid at the store let me pick through them, so I got one with a really nice bore.
Anyway, I bought a set of dies and loaded up some loads and I am really happy with it. If I could find the funds I would buy another :)

Omega Weapons Systems was selling Chinese T53 Nagants for $35 apiece + $16 shipping. They are dinged up but clean up well and are shooters. I got 3 of them.

They're great! I have one, planning on pick up more as well. As far as Big 5, I have heard that they are rather hit and miss in terms of their Mosins. I would check it out carefully before you buy and if you don't get to pick your own out of the lot I would probably pass. But then again, I have read how a few people have acquired very rare models from Big 5 as well, guns that should have gone for 4x that price.

Thanks, guys. Think these bear further investigation. I'll make a trip down there and check them out. At this particular store, you're able to pick through their inventory. I've had good luck there...the CAI-marked Enfield I got from them is a great shooter. Had to adjust the headspacing, but other than that, it's been pure fun.

The 91/30 and m-38's at big-5 can be hit or miss but the m-44's are almost always like new.
I think thats why so many people get a m-44 as their first Mosin.
Clean it very good or the bolt will stick.

I've purchased all my M91/30s from Big 5 and have been very happy with the condition of each. Sometimes the wood can be rough, but the metal has been in A+ condition (looks rearsenaled, bright bore, 100% finish).

I'm in California so the $99 asking price for these guns is par for the course... when everyone else is buying them for less than what it'd cost of a tank of gas.

Big 5 was totally cool about letting me go through the assortment of 91/30's. One had a bright bore, so it came home with me.

They are good buys...and yes they will let you search through the collection they have. Most come with matching bayonets.
