Has anyone tryed the COMBATHUNTING mosin nagant scout mount?
At the range I watch a young man shoot his M-38 scout and get 4 inch at 150 yards(+/-). He was using the combathunting mount, with a LER scope, 4 power I think.
I want to build a scout mosin rifle and trying to figure out who sells the better scout mount.
Thanks,
Proshot

Link?

These guys have a REAL nice scout mount for the Mosin:
http://www.makarov.com/cart/mosmount.htm

You remove the rear sight block (it's pinned on my M91/30) and this new scope mount clamps on the base. BUT... they seem to be sold out, and something tells me this product won't make a reappearance anytime soon.

I am trying to get one of the 91/30 mounts from Makarov.com. Unfortunately the manufacturer has had problems lately and the guys at Makarov.com have told me the maker won't be shipping new mounts until May 30. They have been out of stock since February, so I've been waiting a long time already. I am fairly sure my Mosin will get a (good) scout mount, even if it's too long! :D

Also, unfortunately, the M-38 will not take that mount since it's rear sights are not mounted the same way the M-91/30's are. I think that the M-91/59 will take that mount since it is basically a sawed off 91/30.

The mount I got for the M-38 was IIRC, a John Masen mount, and it would not hold a zero at all. I have learned (the hard way) to be leery of the milsurp scout mount since many designs are inherently weak.

Anyway, good luck with the Scout M-38.

Darrell's mount seems to get the most happiness over at surplusrifle.com. It's a bit spendier than the others, around 60 bucks, but if it works and stays working, it's probably worth the extra bread.

That's probably what I'll buy for my m44 project.

Darrell's mount is well worth the money.

here is an m39 with a S&K mount, i would either opt for the s&k or darrels. i personally went this way because it was cheaper than darrels + it came with the rings.

How many "scout rifle" shooters are here ?

I'm working on a Cooper Memorial Postal match for Scout Rifles.

I'd really be interested in what you all think.

Here are the details: http://eteamz.active.com/scheduler/

You know,, the irons are easier to use and fool proof....

But if I have to choose, I like the S&K mounts because you don't have to change anything about the rifle but the rear sight. And there are no permanant mods to the old war horse....
