Hey guys
I am looking to get a hd/plinking rifle that isn't going to break the bank.:) I have narrowed it down to a sks that I would modify or a saiga 308. I will do most of my shooting between 50-150 yards idealy I would like 2-3 moa at 100 yards.

1.Yugo Sks-$170
2.New polymer stock with m4 style butt $75
3.Tech sights or red dot (50-70)

total- around $350 with taxes:D

1. Saiga 308 with dragunov style stock $380
2. psop scope and scope mount $120

total around $525 with taxes:(

What are the pros and cons of each? Which would you buy, and which is more reliable?
Also how hard is it to convert the sks to take detachable mags.
Thanks a lot,

I like the Saiga, but that's because I'm lazy and wouldn't want to convert the stock. I can't say I care for the Dragunov style stock, except on real wood Dragunovs.

Saiga 308, but I don't care for the dragunov stock idea.

.308 runs much more than SKS (ammo wise)

both will last you and run well, but the yugo barrel longevity may be an issue (not lined, and used, just be sure to inspect it well prior to purchse).

Very easy to convert sks to mags... but some have reliability issues with the conversion (most don't have issues)

Personally, i would go AK, or Saiga variant over the sks, but I would opt for 7.62x39 over .308. Way better for HD, and plinking, and budget imo

Saiga in 39, no question. The price of 308 is through the roof. I have an SKS but wish I had gone the Saiga route.

Saiga in 7.62x39 but instead of the dragunov stock I'd put a regular AK style grip and buttstuck (possibly a folding) on it.
