The Minnesota Once-In-A-Lifetime Moose hunt lottery that is.

My dad and I along with a close family friend drew the tag for this fall. Whether we tag a moose or not, this is our one crack. Wish us luck.

Congrats!

What kind of gun/caliber/scope are you going to take?

I'll be using a Sako 338 win mag. It wears a Nikon 3X9. 250 grain handloads - my dad is an avid reloader.

With that .338 if you actually see a moose he should have a very very bad day.

I think THAT lottery is better to win than the OTHER lottery. Good luck. Oh, wait. Luck seems to be on your side already :p

This rig did the trick on a 5X5 Rocky Mountain Bull Elk in '03 too.

This is the only lottery I play too. Better chance of winning I guess.

What area are you hunting?
Good luck, I put in for years and will start again soon.

Good friend drew the Agassiz WMA permit some years back. Prior to him hunting that area it had a 100% success rate. Him being a meat cutter he had it cut and wrapped before he left home. Takes a good man to put the hunt back into hunting.

If you come home empty handed you will never be able to let it go.

Busy week...

We'll be hunting not far from Grand Marais. Our friend lives up there and he's been scouting, talking to landowners and Game Wardens etc. I'm making two trips up this summer to check stuff out a bit too.

I'm hitting our range this weekend with the 338. My folks have an additional 40 acres near their home and we set up a 300 yard range there. Bench and everything. I think we'll bring the 22s and have my son hit the new steel plate reactive targets while we're at it.

Well, I made a deal with my dad this weekend so it WILL now be my 338. He's had two 338s for years, a Remington 700 that my mom gave him and this Sako, and I asked if he'd be willing to part with the Sako. He told me he'd always considered it mine and that I could pay him when I could. He named a price and gave me great terms - whenever I can pay him. Thanks dad.
