Mossberg maverick 12 gauge... I know someone (if not everyone) has one. Things are so cheap, and I'm looking to get it to keep in the car. Not 21 yet, so a handgun is out of the question, and I personally don't like rifles for 'truck guns.'
So, my question is... Is there a better gun for the money, or will is this as good as it gets?

Very good guns for the money, i bought one and replaced the 28" barrel with a new 20" with screw in chokes and it is awesome, same as mossberg and our military uses the mossberg , trouble free awesome guns.

Yep, I'll second that, for the money you would be hard pressed to find anything of more value. In fact I'm not so sure it wouldn't hold it's own against quite few guns costing a lot more.

I bought a used Mossy Maverick 88 down in Ocala, FL, while doing some visiting this past December and I am very pleased with it. It came with a Speedfeed I stock which is okay by me and the usual heat shield they have on their 'Security' models.
I've put many rounds through it, both buck shot and target loads, and it's given me no trouble. It is a fast. smooth gun and for the price, I'm okay with banging it around a little. I have also discovered by visiting the Shotgun World News tactical shotgun forums that it can be easily customized with almost any accessory available for the Mossberg 500 series guns.
If the price is right, you won't be sorry. As a poster over a SGWN writes about ammo, "Buy cheap and stack deep!"

The maverick is basically the same as the mossberg model 500 and all you have to do is search for that name and youll have any doubts cleared up right away.
I have a 500 and i love it its a heck of a gun.

I bought my first gun - after tremendous amounts of research - in October last year - a Mossberg 500 w/18.5 and 28" barrels on sale for $205. I've have ZERO problems and have put through ALOT of ammo (#00 buck, #6 bird, 1oz slugs, 600grain 3" magnums) - Mossberg 500 is a winner period.
