Im having second thoughts about yote hunting with my 22 mag... My freinds use thiers, and are successfull. Mine is a Marlin 982VS. Very accurate. If it gets within 100 yds, a head shot is a piece of cake. Im not a head shot kinda guy, yet..... I usually go for vital shots.... I would just like other oppinions on it. TY

I see no problem with proper shot placement! Good Luck! Post some pics of your coyotes if you shoot one.

I think the 22mag would work fine. Its got quite a bit of power for its size. I think its one of the the greatest 'unknown' calibers out there.

I've got a 982vs also, and mine's a regular tack driver. Good luck with it!

Seems to me that a head shot with a small cartridge is a better guarantee of a clean kill.

I dunno. To me, the notion of a clean kill is the main part of the whole deal.

Back in the early1980s I hunted coyotes a lot. I shoot a 22-260, and my partner shot a Marlin 22 Mag. Within 100 yds, it killed them just fine, and he didn't have to sew up gaping holes in the hides like I did

Theres not alot of rifle huntin in these parts, so I fugured property owners would be more kind to a 22 wmr, as oposed to a 308... I was a bit skeptical, so I appreciate the input. :D

I hunt a lot of yotes. I used to use a .22 mag, but I had some toubles, even with headshots. The .22 mag is too small with to little kinetic energy yote hunting. Even on a 100 yd headshot, you might strike a nonfatal glancing shot. On vitals, you will probably not get too many animals, they will haul that bullet off unless you do something great.

I shoot a .223 for yotes, friends use .22-250, and .208

We can kill yotes at 300 yds or so and make the headshots at closer ranges....no dogs get away!

I got yotes and the 22mag does fine from 75-100yds. usually use my 223 since it's good to 250yds(or more). big jump in power and noise though:)
