Yesterday I was at the gun shop just snooping around and saw a Marlin 98 Mauser in 30-06. I've been looking for the Marlin MR-7 in 30-06 but they're a bit rare. Anyway, The Mauser took me by surprise. Can anyone help me with some facts etc. about this rifle?
thanks,
dean

Marlin sold the Model 455 in .30-06 (and .308) from 1957-1959 only.
It has an FN Mauser action, a Sako adjustable trigger, Lyman sights, and a Marlin Microgroove barrel. I don't know if they made the stocks or bought them from Fajen or Bishop. It was not a success in the market and did not last long. I have read that the Microgroove barrel did not last as long as conventional in calibers hotter than .30-30; and it was too late in history for a rather heavy rifle with peep sights to sell well.
