I came across the tec-DC9(pre-ban w/ threaded and shrouded barrel) the other day, and it looked intriguing.

I asked around and the consesus seems to be that it is a piece of trash. It has crude sights and jams a lot according to most.

It seems, however, that with the right ammunition and the orginal-factory magainze, the gun works fine in terms of reliability. Anyone have info to the contrary?

What, if anything, can be done to improve the accuracy(i.e. is it just because of the sights or is it the gun itself - the preban has a barrel length of 8'' so that doesn't help I guess)?

Does any one have any direct experience with this gun that they would share with me?

One last thing, is $450 for a NIB one reasonable nowadays since the company went out of business and no longer manufactures them?

Thank you.

About 15 years ago, my dad bought a used one for about 150 dollars. Not accurate but seemed to be reliable. He sold it after playing with it for a while. I do seem to remember seeing one at a gun show about five years ago that had a 600 dollar price tag on it. Kinda wish my dad would have held onto his to sell it at a higher price.

I would check into a Mac type pistol since they cost less than the Tec-9. A new Mac-11 runs around $300.00 and uses readily available Sten magazines.

Only if it comes signed by Mark Manes... or Mickey Moore

No. It's not reasonable. The only reason those POS things climbed in value was because of the one used during Columbine.

I have still seen them at gun shows for $200. I had the TEC .22 scorpion and it was a jam-o-matic. $450....RUN...very fast..

If you're interested in a Tec-9, do yourself a favor and move up a notch or two...buy a Lorcin.

Ask yourself why you would actually WANT a handgun that is larger than a Glock 19, has the magazine in front of the trigger guard and is thicker and heavier to boot?
Its just something that impresses Gangsta supuhstah wannabes who can't get ahold of a real Uzi or Mac 10.

Don't do it--you'll be sorry.Get one of these instead. They are very well made and reliable and can be had (in 9x19 or .45acp) in the $325.00 range on gunbroker.I just got my own recently and can't wait to send rounds downrange.

Yeah, if you use FMJ only.

$450 for a tec-9? :barf:

For that kind of money, there are much better options.

Roger that. So this masterpiece arms "defender" is a pretty good gun?

Someone said a mac 11 runs right around the price of the defender, so is it about the same as the mac 11 or better or what?

Also, are FMJ 9mm quite expensive? How much would you say a box of 50 costs?

Last but not least what is a Lorcin?

Thanks for all your help.

1.Lorcins are a gun to be avoided at all cost.Garbage. :barf:
2.If your gun is already broken in you can get by with using Winchester WUSS box in the 100 round 9x19 FMJ pack that Wal-Mart sells for $10.00
3.The defender comes in a top or side cocking model (I got the top because it looks REAL cool) and is mostly milled parts out of high quality steel.Mine (MPA-10,.45acp) weighs 7.63 POUNDS with a full 30 round mag.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the Defender isn't legal in California. :D
