Got a Makarov with a ding on the muzzle. The ding is deep, but it does not extend inward quite as far as the lands and grooves.

So, am I correct in assuming that a ding like this will not affect accuracy? I'm thinking that's why the Mak muzzle is beveled, so it can take some level of damage without practical effect.

Muzzle damage is significant only if it extends to where the muzzle meets the bore.

..the crown or edge of the bore-muzzle is where it is important..otherwise it is cosmetic..

Anything that could have caused a "deep ding" could have done damge to the barrel that is invisible to the eye. If the bore is OK and not damaged/oval, then as long as the crown isn't affected you're good to go.
