On this link, it claims that the military model of the Ruger Mini 30 can take AK-47 mags. http://securityarms.com/20010315/galleryfiles/2800/2899.htm

As I'm sure everyone and his brother knows, the high capacity mags for this firearm are nearly impossible to find for anything remotely resembleing a reasonable price. It would be great if I could get my Mini 30 modified to accept the AK mags as this page purports.

Has anyone ever seen one/heard of this being done/can do it?

I guarantee it. However, it would not be an easy job for the average Joe. I also don't know if I would want to pay for the money myself either.

The reason why I didn't want an AK in the first place is when it comes to hardware of any kind, I buy American, plus when I brought that Mini 30 to my shoulder in the store it felt perfect, unlike the AK. But those high capacity mags for the Mini 30 are just too hard to come by. I am still awaiting orders to go back to the Katrina disaster zone, and I will definitely need to bring some heat with me, especially because I will have my wife with me. I heard of a local gunsmith with over 40 years in the business near where I am staying, I'm going to check with him today to see how much it would be. If it's going to be too much, then I'll just get him to get my peice-o'-███████ 30 rnd mags working.

Dear Shooter.
First, I admit I know nothing about this conversion.
However, most "conversions" like this are very shady affairs.
I would certainly get the proper mags and if you need AK mags, buy an AK47.

The Ruger XGI wasn't built because Ruger couldn't get it to work in .308.
Go here. http://copesdist.com/mini30.htm
Dump the inaccurate junk and get a good M-1 Carbine. Use 110 grain HP's handloaded with IMR4227 and forget the AK mags.
