I have a 17 Savage and would like a 223 or 243. How much is the cost to reload and buy loaded bullets? I like to put holes in paper at 50-100- 200 yards. At my age I don't think I'll be going deer hunting maybe my kids would someday.

The .223 will be cheaper to shoot, and it will keep the barrel much cooler so it'll last longer.

if your going to punch holes in paper at 200 yards either one will work just fine. .223 will have lots of available cheap ammo. .243 hits harder and shoots very flat also, however unless you're going hunting there is no advantage

Ammo's cheaper, barrel stays cooler, most kids can handle the recoil no problem, very accurate to 200+ yards.
