I have not heard that, but I can say I was not impressed with the 2 I handled at the gun store.
I was dead set on gettting either the tactical or the 20ga, but after actually seeing/handling both, I quickly changed my mind.

Neither felt particularly good, both were quite thick, the actions on both were not very smooth, and that rattly forend would drive me crazy.

I've shot a few cases through my 20 ga and the action is still very stiff. I borrowed a friend's Mossberg and the shell practically flew into the chamber in comparison.

It hasn't loosened up one bit.

Stick with American made guns like Mosberg, Remington, Winchester,etc.. Ya just cant go wrong with an American pump.

I have a Benelli Nova 12ga. I have the black synthetic model, not the camo.

The action is smooth as silk, the bolt is Benelli's signature rotating bolt that is in all of their famous semi-autos... and uh did I mention it's made by Benelli? How can you go wrong?

I clean mine Nova after each use (as I do with all my firearms) and it's worked perfectly. No misfeeds, no FTE's...etc.

It strips down to the bare bones in literally 30 seconds for easy cleaning.

I do agree about the rattly forend - that would be my only complaint. But brand new at $299 I couldn't pass up purchasing Benelli's first pump action...and I'm glad I didn't.

I dust more clays with this Nova than my buddy and his Citori. Looking down the rib vents on this 28 barrel feels natural to me, maybe I got lucky and this particular guns dimensions are a perfect fit for me. I've been recommending this shotgun to everyone I know.

I also have an 870 Wingmaster... but hardly use it anymore. It's a GREAT weapon but I can't forget the success I'm having with this Nova when I go into my vault and reach for a 12ga.

great choice with the 870, i've got a 3.5'' special edition mossy oak break-up 870. i've had it for about 4 years and i duck hunt pretty hard and rarely use a gun case in the boat. i've never cleaned it and it has never given me one single problem. and since i use a super full choke and 3.5'' shells, it will reach out and hit a duck high above the trees or out beyond the decoys.

Was about to say---my Nova is slicker than snot.

The Nova is a better gun than the 870--if-- BIG IF----it fits you right-----as the Nova's stock can't be changed.

I own 870's-----but much prefer the Nova.

I own a 12ga. nova I got the bracket and mercury tube in the stock for recoil.
I also own a 870 20ga express combo with a b-square mount, and bsa fixed 2X hunter scope on it both are very nice for PA hunting.
