Like I said in another thread in this forum, I would highly advise you not to rely on phone calls if you really want to score one of these deals. Based on my experience I'd bet that at least two or three of the Walmarts I called probably had something in stock when they told me they didn't. The only way I ended up with one of the Savage rifles is because this particular Walmart just didn't put out all their clearance rifles when everyone else did. I have no idea why.

Good luck!! :)

It's mostly luck catching a rifle at discount price.I was in the local WM a few weeks back and noticed a stack of papers with a rifle or shotgun on each page with the discount price. The counter guy said they were the guns that were sold. There was some good deals missed.I stopped looking when I saw a Rem.700 in 22-250 that went out the door for $250. :( They said there is no set time they do this.

I went looking for some discounted rifles-shotguns I heard were going cheap right after hunting season. I chatted with a guy that worked at K-mart. He indicated that firearms went on sale at weird times. Also he indicated that "scratch and dent" type deals were available at times. I slipped him $20.00 and a phone number. He agreed to call me when a deal came up.
I thought I had seen the last of my $20.00 but it was worth as shot. He called me several times in the next six months and I purchased a Winchester 12 ga. semiauto shotgun for $140.00, a Marlin 30-30 lever action for $95.00, a Remington Model 7 .243 Youth Model for $200 (damaged stock), and a H&R 12 ga. single shot for $50.00.
Best $20.00 I ever spent. I guess you could just keep checking the stores every few days but I bet a bunch of these "sales" go to friends, employees and tippers.

K-mart a year ago only had a couple .22's in stock for $150. After seeing legacy38's lever 30-30, they look really nice. :)
