Can black powder be mixed with Pyrodex?
Can loose powder be added to a Pyrodex pellet to "enhance" the charge?

Many flintlock shooters use a kicker charge of 10grs of FFF behind a pyrodex load, as flintlocks aren't the best at igniting Pyrodex. As for mixing it beforehand, you might get erratic ignition (?)

The answer to this question is yes. But if you have access to Black Powder, why dilute it with Pyrodex? Good Black Powder will ignite better than Pyrodex and is not any harder to clean. If you have a good source, it usually costs less too.
I know some folks have a hard time finding Black Powder in ther local area, and they load a few grains of black then Pyrodex over top. This gives a surer ignition. I did this for an experiment until I found a better supply of black powder.

Thanks, I was just curious if it could be done.

Walter Cline (the fellow who appears on some medals made by the NMRLA) mixed his powders for some long range shooting with a roundball gun. He used some 3F against the breech and topped it off with 2F and a wad.

I use FFF in everything but shotguns.
