I don't know if anyone else is having a problem, but i figured i'd toss this up here anyway.

Mossberg uses the same sling attachment method for both their 6 and 8 round tube guns. (the bottom of the take town screw support is drilled and tapped for a QD swivel stud)

on their six round guns, the sling is placed relatively close to the end of the foreend, which doesn't cause any proplems, because the distance from the front swivel and the rear swivel is about the same as a normal rifle.

the 8 round models, however, place the sling swivel within a half inch of the muzzle, which means the sling has to be goddawfully long, witht he ide effect of making the butt practically drag on the ground when a short person slings it muzzle up.

To fix it, I made de an aluminum sling swivel mount ring from a piece of 1.5 inch round stock. it slips over the magazine tube and fixes in place just ahead of the forend with three setscrews and allows for a more natural sling setup.

i'll post pictures when I can get ahold of a camera.

would any of you be interested in having one? I can turn them out in about an hour, and they're really solid.

Congratulations, Andrew...

You have won the prize for the longest thread title in TFL history :D  :D

Seriously, though, it sounds like a good solution.

heh. thanks.

If i have some time, i'll make up a bunch and bring them to the WC 3 gun match.

What's the magazine tube diameter/gap between the tube and barrel on a 1201?

I've never had a problem with the sling mount. Truth is, while I did make a sling for it, I hardly ever use it.

The idea does have merit and if it works sell as many as you can!

I've often thought about getting one of those mag clamps that ties the barrel and mag together. It would be cool to put a sling mount on one of those too.

THe neat thing about the system I'm using is that it doesn't affect zero.

most of those mag clamps aren't very well designed, anyway. he choate ones (if i recall correctly) were soft enough that you could rip the sling swivel out of it's threads.

It is my understanding that the tension of those clamps MAY affect a slug zero when removed and re-installed.

That may not be a bad thing. It could tighten things up a bit.

Oh well, not all the ideas I have are good ones. :)
