Who has this extension?
Tac-star I'm looking into getting a 7-round. That would not extend past my 18" barrel on my 870 right? Does this ext. work good? Is it me, or is it kind of fugly? Thanks |

I have the BIG one on an 1100 Rem. They are kinda "fugly" but it does just want they said it would do. Went on simply and works, wish everything in life was like that.

I think I've seen the two-rnd ext not go past the 18".

It could have been just my sample but the 10 round TacStar I got for my 1187 had problems. The tube portion had a tendency to walk out of the knurled collar that attaches the mag to the gun. Particularly after shooting heavy loads and slugs. Always had to pound it back in (it is friction fit to the collar). Tried using an anaerobic adhesive to keep it in place but did not work.
Replaced it with a Choate 10 rounder.

I got the TacStar from Ajax :
http://www.ajaxgrips.com/vn/tacstar/...YytvgyZw78qRAg The Choate I got from Bushmaster : http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/s..._extension.asp There are other places selling these as well as at the gun shows but Ajax was the lowest I saw for TacStars and I've had good service from Bushmaster (not always the cheapest).

The Choates are good but the clamp/swivel stud thing that comes with it has a screw that is not quite long enough.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? |

Hmm. The screw that came with the barrel clamp of my Choate seemed to be long enough. The only problem I had with it is that it tended to slide forward under recoil. I had done away with the clamp altogether and went with a Wilson Combat Sling Mount that slips on between the extended mag and the gun. Brownells No. 800-000-001 (1187/1100), No. 800-100-003 (870).

Thanks, hksigwalther. Do you think it would adequately secure an 870 with a 3-round choate extension?

Oops...I just realized that I have a surefire forend. Probably won't work with it.

Hey hksigwalther (or anyone else),
How well does the Wilson Combat Sling Mount work with a mag extension? Is there still enough thread for the extension to have a secure fit? Brownells also carries a side-mount version (part # 800-100-005) that would work with my surefire forend. Do you think my 3-round extension would be stable with it? Thanks! TCW |

The 800-000-001 Sling Mount is about 3/16" thick. I have about 5/16"-3/8" of threaded tube to attach the extended mag to. It's pretty solid when tightened down.
