a new approach to steel challenge rimfire pistols

basically I had the (bad) idea to look for an odd pistol to use in scsa rimfire division. I want to use an Olympic style target pistol but I cant find hardly any in America and I need to find something that I can get magazines and parts for.

any suggestions?

I've looked in to several but just keep hitting dead ends.

the hammerli Xesse sport looks intersting.

just name off any olympic pistols that are still made, thank you!!!

If you can use a .22 LR, the Smith Model 41 is first rate in every respect, and may serve your needs at a reasonable price. As I recall, "Olympic" pistols were in .22 Short caliber, for it's reduced recoil. Finding one of the long discontinued Hi Standard's would be an expensive option, as would the .22 Short target grade ammunition. Rod

I always wanted a Unique DES 69. Liked the looks and the balance of them.

Closest I got was a FAS 604 air pistol!

A little off topic but I'm always frustrated that the Olympic announcers seldom, if ever, mention what equipment the shooters are using. (Rifle, pistol or shotgun events.) IMhO they should take a cue from NASCAR announcers!

As I recall, the IOC has ended all pistol matches. Air guns only now.
The Olympic announcers wouldn't know what the stuff was if it fell on 'em. Very rare that any of the shooting events are covered at all anyway.
An Olympic style target pistol is more about the grips than anything else. Anyway, the ruling body is the ISSF(used to be ISS). Any .22 LR pistol with a minimum bullet weight of 39 grains is allowed. Shorts are used in Free pistols.

There's no specific brand or model. However, any pistol used in NRA Bullseye will do.

Nope, .22 Short is not used in Free Pistol at 50 metres.
Short shooters are no longer allowed even in their previous home of Rapid Fire.

A friend has a Walther GSP he tried out at Steel, with limited results.
These target pistols are standard with 5 round magazines, 10 is uncommon, and his modified clips of other makes were not 100%.

All pictures of ISU pistols are from the right side showing the contoured grips for a right handed shooter. What they do not show is that the left side is slabbed off flat. There is a maximum allowable width and what sticks out on the right must be made up on the left. It is hard to get a good two handed hold on such a gun.
