Mini 14 Tactical

I am getting one. If anyone here has one, I would appreciate your input. I am also wondering what kind of optic to put on it. I'm thinking a red dot of some kind, because the irons are too low for me to see through. In spite of that, I still like the look and the concept of this little carbine.

This is my fifth Mini. I have two other 14s, a 30 and a 6.8, all full-size rifles.

Thanks

I have a stainless tactical (Ruger calls it a patrol rifle) and like it alot. The handling of the rifle is great, and I plan on leaving mine with the iron sights. I have an older stainless ranch with a wood stock, and I like the ergos on the new one even more than the old one. I did have to loctite the rear peep windage screws to keep them from walking out. Low strength purple loctite did the trick.

I put a 3-9X40 tactical scope on my mini 14 with the factory ATI folding stock.

As far as optics, I think the Nikon 1x4 scope made for the AR is perfect for the Mini.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I have a Nikon 1-4 lying around somewhere. Still thinking about a red dot, too.

I have the tactical model (not the one with the folding stock). I put a Redfield 2-7x33 scope on it. Works perfectly for close/medium range. The gun is surprisingly accurate.

I have irons only and seem to manage about 3" for 3 shots at 100 yards with both Wolf 55gr and Winchester 55gr. I can probably shoot irons better than that with a really accurate gun, but not much. I do believe the gun will probably do half of that with a scope and different ammo.

Mine will shoot 1.5" groups consistently @ 50 yrds with irons. I decided against any optics for right now. Had a burris fastfire with a GG&G mount but the locking screws were loosening under recoil. If I try again it will be a red dot of some type.
