Stevens

Stevens was a prolific maker of utility grade shotguns from approximately the end of the Civil War until it was bought by the Savage Arms Co. just after WWI.
Evaluation of your gun depends on more than serial #s. What kind of wood is used for the stock and what condition is it in? What is the condition of the bores? Barrels....Damascus steel or some thing else? How tight if the barrel to breech fit?
A pic would help.

It sounds like the forend may not be original to the gun.

And........Does it have external hammers ?
