Who is making blued 1911's?
I cannot find a blued 1911, you know the ones like in 1942.
All the 1911's I can find are parkerized/SS etc.. What happen to the cool 1942 style 1911's? Anything like this being made? just pure nice blued and shiny. |

Colt is one of the few still offering blued guns.

Colt would most likely be your best choice if you want a mass produced blued 1911 pistol.
I too, am very fond of nice bluing. Bluing being a transparent finish will not cover up bad metal prep like paint will. I believe that's why so many gun companies and even some custom builders choose paint, they don't want to do the metal prep. Here's a picture of a custom 9mm I built and sold a while back, this gun is blued. Best Regards Bob Hunter |

All the 1911 (A1) models made in 1942 were parkerized. The OP's picture is of a 1911-which wasn't even made in 1942.

In addition to Colt and Baer mentioned previously, Remington makes a pretty nice looking blue 1911. Ed Brown will also make any of his models in blue. His blued guns are almost black:

EDIT: Looks like about 25,000 blued or mixed-finish pistols made by Colt in '42 (~756,000 - 780,000 serial range) Last edited by RickB; March 22, 2012 at 08:44 PM. |

I like .380s idea, I just don't know where I could locally get a hotblue. I cold blued an RIA 1911 because it was getting beat. I polished up the slide and it turned out good. I do have to touch it up from time to time.
