Picked up a Stevens 200 Action a while back
Savage Stevens 200
Picked up a Stevens 200 Action a while back. I got two barrels with it (7mm-08 and .243 Win). Painted up the stock and dropped in Timney trigger and removed all over travel and have it breaking crisply at 2lbs. Loaded up for 7mm-08, 139 gr Vmax, using IMR-3031 at 39gr. Shooting at 125yds I got the groups okay, but seems each group has a flyer....sigh. Still within an inch at 125 yards.

My 7mm08's like 150grn bullets better than 140's. I don't think anyone offers factory ammo in the 150 but try H4350, 45.5 grns for me.

I'd bed the action, it would probably shrink your groups. Other than that it looks good, Savage's are fun to tinker with.

I wouldn't bother with the synthetic stock, they are too flexible. Replace it.

this one isn't....I take the standard Savage stock and bed an aluminum U channel in the forearm and fill in JB weld on the sides. That stock is as stiff as they come. No way under human pressure are you gonna move the stock to come close to touching the barrel.
Nothing wrong with Boyds but my option is a lot lighter and just as firm.
