What to expect in using chamber inserts?
Have a O/U Marlin M90 in 16ga, tight chokes, bought a pair of 16ga. / .410 chamber inserts (3.5" OAL).
How open the pattern might be??? Thanks. |

SUPPOSEDLY, they will pattern the same as your chokes will............this has always befuddled me because I cannot fathom how from a physics standpoint that is possible.

They will pattern completely differently. Go ahead and do us a little write up, kinda curious myself. I thought real hard about buying some 20ga inserts, but then I said "my auto probably would have trouble in some way shape or form."

Ruger, I doubt if they would work in an auto, designed for break open shotguns. I'm like oneounce, they can't pattern worth a crap since they can't expand to fill the bore and will have gas blowing past the payload. I doubt if a 410 is even going to touch the choke in a 16 ga.......

Just a guess cause I am not going to search but if its not a manual reset and is only 3.5 inch tubes you may only have a 50/50 chance on reseting your gun.

Before I got my first .410-bore gun, I used Savage Four-Tenner inserts for Skeet. They were short tubes but considerably longer 3.5-inches. They, too, claimed to use the gun's chokes -- I doubted it then and I still do. Any targets broken with those shorties was pure luck. They patterned pathetically.
