Need help on choosing rings and base for rem 700 sps tactical

hello everyone i came to this forum so i could get some advice and help with my setup, i recently decided to get a rem 700 sps tactical .308, and a bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 scope, but i do not know much at all about what ring and base will go good with this rifle and scope, if anyone can point me in a direction in what to buy, the bases and rings that they sell on cabelas.ca and wholesports in canada are mostly leupold, buris, and weaver, 1 set and 2 set but i dont know what will be good, all opinions welcome!

I have the same rifle and have Leupold 2 piece base and rings. Rock solid.

I don't have a rem 700 sps tactical,I do have several rem 700's all of them using two piece leupold bases and leupold rings...Highly recommended!

I've compared one-piece mounts with two-piece, and for decades I've preferred the latter. No flies on Leupold. Weavers work just as well, in my experience. All in all, almost any of the name-brand mounts will do quite well, and it's pretty much a choice of appearance and cost.

From a "just my opinion" standpoint, I like the Conetrols for appearance. Slick little devils.

And they hold just as well as any. But, being a cheapskate, I mostly use the Weavers...

thanks for the replys is it the 2piece dovetail base for rem 700 and the dual dovetail rings? or just the STD 2 piece base and STD rings from leupold

In my case, std rings and bases. Nothing to dovetail on my rifle.

Are you just punching paper or what? I have an Accuracy International 1-piece mount on a dovetail for my 'all around' rifle (700 PSS). I keep a hex wrench in a pouch so depending on my shooting position (up a tree stand, prone, or off a bench) it's easy to adjust eye relief without messing with the scope rings. Just loosten, slide the entire scope back or forward, & tighten back up.

GURU, there seems to be more traffic here on rifle-associated things like scopes and mounts. So, I let those threads run...

I use the Millet Angle-Loc rings. Use then to take up most of any windage problems and the finish it out with the scope so this way I still have most of my adjustment left. I use Weaver 2 piece or the Weaver 1 piece 20 MOA base pretty much all made the same and stand up well. Best thing is I don't have to hock the farm to get a set.

thanks for the replys, sorry about that i didnt know what area to place this topic in just decided the art of the rifle will do haha, anyways im just going to be target practicing shooting paper yea and a bit of deer hunting, and i another question what height of rings should i get if i were to get the leupold rings, low , med, or high? thanks again

This setup is rock solid.. Leupold Mark 4 base with Warne Rings..

There are some folks who believe that a one piece base adds stiffness to the receiver and contributes to accuracy. And it seems logical that a one piece base might be more rugged due to more mass. I'm not for sure, but I believe about all of the military and LE bolt rifles will be running a one piece base. That said, there are plenty of sporters running two piece bases that shoot just fine for years.

My long range rig has a 1 piece 20 degree Warne base (pricey), steel, but aluminum is available at a lower price. I went with Burris XTR rings, which have a nice look, are massive, but can be had w/o breaking the bank. The fact that they are aluminnum does not bother me a bit.

A rail type base creates a nice easy location to attatch other accessories. Mine has an anti cant level on it and I can vary where I bolt it with the rail w/o any hassle.

makron, most scopes with a 40mm objective will fit on low bases. As long as the bell of the scope doesn't touch the barrel, any little bit of daylight is plenty of clearance.
