What Caliber For Killer Chipmunks?
Dudes I kid you not they are out there, eating cornflakes, traumatizing pets....
From the Sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ears-grow.html THIS chipmunk charged a pet cat twice its size in the first of a wave of rodent attacks feared to hit Britain. The crazed critter dived through a hole in a fence and hurtled towards dozing Sage. The startled moggie sprang up and had to fend off the ten-inch long rodent in their garden battle. Colin Phillips, 38 - whose son Lucas, 12, owns Sage - managed to grab the first pictures of a wild chipmunk in the UK. He fears the disease-riddled vermin may strike again. And last night motorist Doreen Walker told how she ran down a chipmunk - as FIVE of the foreign rodents scampered across the road in front of her. The Sun told yesterday how thousands of Siberian chipmunks have escaped or been released into the wild by traders or pet owners. The Channel Tunnel is also being monitored in case the rodents - which have wreaked havoc in France - pour through into Britain. Shaken Colin, of Stafford, Staffs, said: "I've seen chipmunks in America and know they can be vicious and bite. "Sage was dozing when the chipmunk jumped through the fence. It was clearly going for the cat. "The chipmunk got within six inches of Sage and was about to pounce when she lashed out then bit it. "What happened next was alarming. It started bouncing up and down about a foot in the air. "It was an extraordinary reaction - some sort of extreme defence mechanism. Sage finished it off. It was a case of kill or be killed. "When I read about killer chipmunks in The Sun, I knew that's what I'd seen." Meanwhile Doreen, 61, spotted a chipmunk family on a country road driving from Otley to her home in Leeds, West Yorks. She said: "They appeared from the undergrowth, I was stunned. "I hadn't a clue what they were. I tried to brake but I couldn't avoid one of them." Doreen searched online for the animals - which had distinctive reddish-brown stripes on their backs. She identified them as Tamias Sibiricus, the Siberian chipmunk. She alerted environmental department Defra, saying: "I am glad The Sun has highlighted the danger of these chipmunks. "They looked cute but it sounds like people should keep well away." Siberian chipmunks can be infected with Lyme disease, which targets the nervous system and can be fatal for humans. They can even have rabies. Government conservation agency Natural England warned the public that if they see a chipmunk they should try to contain it in a cardboard box - as long as they can avoid being bitten - then call the RSPCA. They said that any chipmunks spotted were probably escaped pets, but added: "All introduced species are a potential threat to our native wildlife." _________________________________________________________________________ Now the Brits have been disarmed totally, so it is up to us to help our cousins across the pond... Whats the best caliber when you see them outside? Or inside...what if they are biting your Crunchy Nuts? http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...s-kitchen.html (I cant stand it you have GOT to click on the link!) Lets support our allies? What guns do we need? WildanddontforgettacticsAlaska TM PS Shaken Colin, of Stafford, Staffs, said: "I've seen chipmunks in America and know they can be vicious and bite. I thought they were joking at first
I'd use my .22 chipmunk I got when I was 7... how's that for 40 grains of 22 caliber irony?

I just took my family camping this weekend, and I can testify that those little buggers are getting brash! My lil' girls fed them a few times. Then they started coming closer. Running BETWEEN OUR FEET! And while we were doing the dishes, they JUMPED UP ON THE TABLE AND STARTED RAIDING OUR TRASH SACK!
My lil' girls started worrying about the safety of their open toes. Its that bad. Caliber? A .177 airgun is sufficient. But...if you want a sure 1-stop shot, I would go with a .17 HMR, or even a .17 centerfire! Tactics? BAIT! Fire from a secure position, and be sure to check six. No telling when they'll start using cooperative tactics.

10" Chipmunks!
Since the Brits only have air rifles, at this point, I'd guess either .177 or .22 @ 800+ FPS. |

Normally I would say my 7 mm mag, but that's only for the long open shots out at 200 yards or so. But chipmunks definitely fall into the dangerous game category and I often encounter them in the dense woods and brush. For that reason I want to carry my 45-70 loaded with hard cast bullets. The 405 grain bullets seem to penetrate the best. I don't worry about expansion, I just want deep penetration to penetrate that tough skin and massive bones.

Screw all the lightweights with their .50 BMG and 45-70 pansy cartridges... It's time for a full-on war with these monsters... I'm thinking 25mm & 76mm bombardment should weaken their reinforced defensive positions in the "undergrowth".
We'll all need body armor and thermal resistant suits, I hear that the chipmunks have teamed up with a TFL poster from the T&T board buying up a lot of thermal imaging devices from the black market.

For the love of all that is holy and good....
some people REALLY need to enlarge their worlds. "I've seen chipmunk's in America... can be viscous and bite." I'm going to say that a pellet gun or a size 5 or larger Nike will do the trick....

While I sure would eat one long before losing any weight... They make better scooby snacks if juniors pet Boa "Eva Braun" is too full of squirrels.
But we don't have them little mini squirrels here. Eva would need one a day compared to one squirrel per week. Brent |

I'm thinking an A-10 Warthog.
30mm @ 6000rpm. A couple of 2 or 3 second bursts should do it. |

Killer Chipmunks
I saw in a movie where a half dozen guys got killed by a rabbit that jumped up and slit their throats. It may or may not have been a true story, I don't know; but I'm sure the (stunt?) rabbit they used was trained to kill. They eventually had to use a hand grenade to get rid of it.

Mortar fire. Helps keep your distance so when they splatter you don't get that awful rabies zombie virus on you. Napalm works wonders too.

I no longer deer hunt in Southern Indiana because I was ambushed by a whole herd of them before daylight in 2003. I am now unable to work and I'm still recovering from my wounds. I don't know if that scratch will ever heal.

You may have to "Recalibrate" your wording;..
Now then, are these the more aggresive Saber-Toothed Chimunks or the Standard issue Siberian Chipmunks? No matter as a good Rat trap may be in order. Just make sure you anchor it down. I usually bate it with Corn Flake dough balls or Peanut Butter. Be Safe !!! |
