11-87 Issues

I have a 11-87 sp (3in chamber)that is set up for HD. The gun works well with full power buck shot and slugs. It doesn't cycle at all with regular 2 3/4 in "game loads" and is pretty iffy with low recoil slugs and buck. When the gun does work, it seems to cycle very slowly, (compared to my semi auto rifles and pistols)you can actually see the bolt handle moving. Is this normal? My instinct's tell me to change out the springs, but im not sure. And yes, I have cleaned the gun throughly. Is there a fix for this?

What barrel length? Remington 11-87's with barrels shorter than 26" are designed to shoot heavy loads only. The 26" or longer barrels are designed to shoot almost any 2 3/4" or 3" shell.

The "slowness" of the cycle is normal, or at least close to normal. If you ever wear electronic muffs while shooting you will be amazed how slow a shotgun cycles compared to a rifle. (You can clearly hear the action with electronic muffs)

So far as the not cycling part, Remington makes several different gas seals and rings for the 11-87. I don't remember which versions need which parts but I do know that some of them require changes to fire low power shells.

Give them a call:
