Best training for the buck in the Southwest?

I'm looking to probably take a rifle or pistol class in the next few months, and I'm wondering if someone can recommend a good school/instructor in the Southwest (AZ, NV, or southern CA - preferably AZ). I know (or rather, assume) that Gunsite is top-quality, but $1400 for a class is a bit expensive. Can anyone recommend a place that I might not have heard of in the area that's really good without quite the price tag of Gunsite?

I'm not sure at this point if I want to go for a pistol or rifle class...rifles are cooler, but pistols more practical. My previous gun school experience is a 4-day rifle course at Front Sight, FWIW.

Self Defense Firearms Training By Greg Block

For single-day classes that are good for the price, I like Greg's program. It mght be wrong for you if you are seeking a multi-day progam, but I have taken five classes from Greg spread over five months without regret.

I am happy to recommend him.

Usually I say you get what you pay for, but Gunsite has huge overhead to keep the doors open. You might want to look at this guy. I haven't taken any classes from him, but I've been reading some of his stuff and it makes sense.

Check John Fanam at DTI. He is a travelling instructor, one of the old-school. See if he has somethign in the area you are looking at. I recommend John because he often does a combined handgun/rifle class and the price is pretty good.
