Tommorrow is our official CastNBlast

For those of you who haven't figured out my forum name, it was derived from a 20 year tradition between friends. We go fishing in the morning of opening weekend for dove season, and then go blast doves in the afternoon. We're down on the TX coast, so our season starts really late. Next week is opening of Archery season for deer, and I can hardly wait. My should healed up nice , and I'm actually able to shoot, at a much reduced weight, but I can pull 50lbs, and shoot well out to 30yds, so I'll go take a whack at it next week. I was curious what traditions some others have out there...

One of mine is to save a backstrap all through the year and grill it up the night before bow season opens. Kanda helps remind you of what you are after. Where abouts are you, Victoria area?

I live in Corpus Christi, We hunt birds in Bee County just southwest of Beeville, and I deer hunt in Refugio county about 7 miles north of Refugio.

As for the fishing, it was great. We caught 21 specs between 3 guys, and 1 redfish. The hunting, well, we had a great time, shot lots of SKEET, because the birds were abscent. Our dove season opens too late. They are almost always gone by the time the season actually opens.

BUT...I'm going hog hunting tomorrow, and deer and hog on Saturday. My treestand has tons of activity around it. I'm pumped.

sounds like you did better on the fishing than we did. Went to Port A on 22-24 (the days of the 25-30 mph winds) suffice to say, no limits. Good luck Saturday, my agenda is the same, actually headed out in about 15 mins.

Zeis, are there many deer in the lake Meridith national recreational area? I've been wanting to bag a Mule deer, and I have relatives up there, but was curious if it was worth making the trip or not? I'm thinking along the lines of next season...
