Rem 870 Express Barrel Interchangability
I finally purchased a Rem 870 Express w/ a 26' VR and 20' rifled slug bbl. I was at the range for the first time shooting some hand thrown clays and doing very poorly at it, but that's another story.
While shooting, it was suggested to me to get a 18' bbl for HD. I indicated I was going to later on down the line as I was pretty broke after buying the 870. That person indicated I should look into getting a Mossberg 18' bbl for short money as it can be used in the Rem 870 Express. Is that true and if so what is the downside to that? This is the first time I've heard of it so I wanted to get the experts opinion here first before I believed it. |

Mossberg makes aftermarket barrels for the Remington 870 Express, one of which is an eighteen inch cylinder bore blued barrel. I do not know if the bluing matches or not. They run about $85, give or take a little.

Msot gun shops that handle police style weapons have used, short 870 bbls around. These are cheap and nigh perfect for the matter at hand.
