I know they are expensive. You can do better cost wise to buy an express with a magnum receiver and smoothbore slug barrel and swap out the bolt and mag latch with an old 870 p model if you like the added slickness.Itll save you a hundred bucks and give you the same results.

Check out Gunbroker...the same outfit in NY that I bought from five years ago for $325 is selling for $385 now. Anything under $400 is a deal these days.

Probably the best price is going to be to find a local FFL Dealer who will order one for you, and WON'T "scalp" you on the price.

As information to help determine if the Dealer is a scalper, the Distributor to Dealer price on a 870P Police gun with standard parkerized finish and bead sights is "about" $380.00.

Keep in mind that the Dealer has to special order Police guns from a Remington Law Enforcement distributor, NOT his regular Remington distributor, and he has to make a living.

If you live in the west- Big 5 has an ad for an 870 Defender with 18" bbl and extended magazine for $239.00. I know it's not a police model but they are very good shotguns...
