.410 self defense loads

I noticed federal makes self defense .410 loads,00 buckshot,but only 4 pellets.Would this be enough to trust your life on with 1 shot?

Every pellet in a .410 load will have exactly the same energy as every pellet in a 12 gauge load. There will just be fewer pellets. Shot placement.
A single shot .410 would not be my first or second choice for HD. That being said, I do carry a SS .410 derringer on my belt when I go woods walking.

I'd rather have more, but a .410 is better than nothing. Would I choose it? No. Would I use it if it was all I had? You betcha. Would it work? If I did my part, I feel sure it would. As with anything else used in defense, even a 12 gauge, I wouldn't assume one shot would be enough, and would practice sufficiently so that I could prepare instantly to shoot again if necessary.

one has to remember the distances you should be using a weapon for HD. If you don't hit with the 410 then a 12 would not be any better. the spread of shot is going to be so small that there would be no difference. A miss is a miss. I personally don't like a shotgun for HD but if I were to choose a shotgun the 410 would be one of the choices. 410 shells out of shot barrels are all but worthless. the shell needs a good amount of barrel to reach any speed and gain its effectiveness. Try knocking over a bowling ball with any shotshell from any gauge in a 6" barrel or less, you will be surprised.

its a 20 some odd inch barreled single shot.I own a snubby .357 for HD,but I just wondered some opinions on the .410,maybe if I attach a bayonette id have an ok HD weapon

I have a few boxes of 000 Buck and 5 or 6 boxes of the Russian #4 buck for my Super COmanche-- that being said, when I take it out camping-- that being said, I don't really rely on it dor SD in .410-- I usually load it with .45 COlt at night-- and mainly for Yotes and whatnot--

.410 is better than nothing, but not my first choice. Probably a slug would be a better choice..

Its got a good bit more power than a .45acp or a 9mm

though limited at one shot is the down fall haha. anyway if i was you i'd skip the small buckshot load and load it with the 3" brenneke slugs.
