The .30-06 will work great here in the NW.
We have some long shots on the East/dry side that a .30-06 works great on. On the West/wet side things tend to be a bit closer, a .30-06 is a bit more than you need unless you get a chance at Roosevelt elk near the Olympics. Not in the Olympics mind you that's a no no.
