I've got a .308 Remington 760 in need of a serious cleaning but I can't figure out how to get the barrel off. The trigger assembly looks simple enough to remove...similar to the 870, but the barrel is different. Do I need some type of special tool or am I just overlooking something easy? Any help is appreciated.

Andy,
Why would you want to take the barrel off?

Mostly just because I'd like to see how bad of shape it's in. It's an old gun that hasn't been cleaned in a long time and I'd like to check everything thouroughly.

I used to have one of those and as I recall, that barrel isn't made to come off very easily.
Why not just use a bore light?

I may have to...like you mentioned it doesn't look like it wants to come off.

If you need to examine the chamber closely, an Otis scope may work if you can find one. That's the light the doctor uses to look inside your ears.
I use one to inspect the inside of my belted cases for cracks. It works great.
I think you'd do just as well though by just running a rod through it and using a bore light.
Good luck.
