Yes, but you should be able to do better price wise in a couple weeks. AIM should have more sar's coming in if you can wait - they charge $289.

I can wait. I just been looking for an Ak for a while, and I like this one. What's AIM? Do you have a link to how that might look? And why in a couple of weeks?

It's not bad, per se... I would get an issue of shotgun times and check out the prices of various places like AIM, etc (can't remember the name of the others now).
What is your timeframe? The good thing about the inexpensive ones is that you can always change the furniture out at a later date. Personally, I prefer Bulgarian AKs, although they are a little more costly.
I purchased a "parts" SLR-100 from one of those places in Shotgun Times for about $415. It was made by Gordon Tech and looked new except for the Vietnam era dinged up furniture, which I love. Shoots VERY well... Bulgarian AKs are awesome.

Yes! As previously stated, get an issue of shotgun news! You will definately find better prices for the same gun or something different that you might like more. But, to answer your question, that is a great gun, I have one and I love it.

well, I have a few shotgunnews papers, but every time I come across a good price on an AK, the website doesn' t have them, the price is different, or I don't like that particular one. I need a gun show in the worse way :D

Jeez... "shotgun times" i said... too much fights on TV and burbon on TGIF can turn grog's mind wardbacks, sorry to thr readers and SGnews.
Anyway, those ads typically run at least a month behind from when they are published. Frequently, the people that advertise are forced to anticipate what they will have a month in advance, minimum.
CALL (no e-mail) the big places and ask them for what you are looking for, you might be surprised.

It does appear that AIMSurplus is currently out of 7.62 x 39 SAR-1's ... see http://aimsurplus.com/acatalog/AIM_Rifles_1.html
The price on your auction is indeed a little steep. Also, I don't have much experience with SAR-1's, but my impression is that this is one rifle you're best off to buy after inspection. I looked one over once, and the front sight was canted. The quality appears uneven, so look it over hard, and make sure you've found a good specimen.
Some other web sites to help you:
http://www.shotgunnews.com/gunad/ -- ads in Shotgun News
http://www.gunsamerica.com/ -- one of the better auction sites, from what I've seen.
http://www.ak-47.net/ -- great source of all kinds of AK information.
http://webarmory.ixworld.com/manuals/akmanuals.html -- this guy does a real service by providing all these manuals.
http://www.tapco.com/store/ -- good source of mag's and parts.
http://www.k-varcorp.com/ -- another good source of parts.
AK's are a bit confusing, because there is such a wide variety -- AK-47.net can help you understand the differences. I've heard the best things about the Polytech's, Bulgarian SLR's, the Russian VEPR (from Robinson Armament) and the Gordon Technology offering. Many folks appear to be more enthusiastic about milled receivers.
Now, after you get your AK, you'll start wanting a .308 battle rifle ... ;)
Good luck.

Agree... I have the Gordon Tech, now want a .308. (Also want a good .44 Magnum revolver and a good 12 gauge... too many guns, too little money)
I bought the Bulgarian from CDNN investments, btw. Don't know if they have anymore. I asked specifically for the GT and the guy made sure the rifle was what I requested. Great service from them.
Anyhow, a good AK variant is indeed a nice, inexpensive way to start. To be honest with you, ever since you posted, I have been looking at the prices of AKs a little closer. That one is starting to look more and more like the norm price wise. I guess the ban (whichever one it was this time) decreased the importation of all these overseas parts, receivers, etc... so now it seems they are going up in price.
Let us know what you go for...
