One does not normally remove the barrel unless you are a gunsmith with the proper tools! On most Savage rifles, you loosen the screws holding the action to the stock and lift it out. Does anyone here know the proper number of inch-lbs of torgue to use when replacing the stock?

Say huh?

Just take the barreled action out of the stock (those screws underneath), and sand away... Heck, you have to take the thing out of the stock to get the barrel off, and once you've got it out of the stock, doh, you can sand...

To buy things like barrel wrenches, etc., look for Sharpshooter Supply over at varminthunters.com...

The Savage recommended torque is 25 inch pounds on the action screws. If you dont have a torque wrench, just be careful not to strip out the reciever threads.
