Finally someone had the courage to ask this question.

Admit it, TFL members, this is the question everyone has, at least one time, wondered about.

My life is complete now.

Thanks Brouhaha

According to some literature I have from them. It is pronounced "Lap Wah".

I too had been using la poo ah.

Sam.....follow me, I know a shortcut.

C.R.Sam is right it's "lop-wah" Also a couple of others:
Sabot is "sa-boh"
Sako is "sok-oh"
Anybody else got any to add?

It all dependz on how fast ya say it.

Laaaaaah poooooooh ahhhhhhh
Laaah poooh ahhhh
Lah pooh ahh
La pooh ah
Lapoohah
Lapuwah
Lapwah

What is the proper pronunciation of Como estas'?

My machine-gun-talkin' Mexican buddies say "como-stas."

So, I would err on the safe side and pronounce it "lopwah." That way, if someone calls you on it you can always say, "Yeah, that's what I said, I jes said it real fast."

Idiomatic, my dear Watson.

>> C.R.Sam is right it's "lop-wah" <<

Yep..."LAH-poo-wah"

>> Sabot is "sa-boh" <<

Nope...closer to "SAY-boe"; no accounting for the French. ;)

>>Sako is "sok-oh"<<

Yep...the 'a' in most Euro languages is pronounced "ah".
Just like the 'i' is almost always "ee".

>> Anybody else got any to add? <<

Sure...would like to have a box of ammo for every time I've heard someone pronounce 'Leupold' as "Lee-uh-poled". :)

It's "LEW-poled", guys!

And while we're at it...it's "Fee-OH-kee" for that great ammo mfr. from Italy.

And let's not even get into the correct pronunciation of the name of one of the greatest firearms designers of the last century: Garand.

GAR (rhymes with "car")
AND

"Gar-and"

That's how I've always said it. If you say it fast it can sound like "Ger-And". Some people want to say "grand" (as in $1,000), but I believe they are wrong.

Actually, it's properly pronounced "emm-one". ;)

Yep...the 'a' in most Euro languages is pronounced "ah".
Just like the 'i' is almost always "ee".

So where's the "ah" in "sok-oh"? You mean sak-oh? That reminds me of sake (sah-kay, not sock-ee):D:D
