22 Long Rifle Ammunition

I posted this on another site.

I certainly didn't need any more 22 long rifle ammunition but I couldn't resist the box of 1,000 rounds of 22 LR at Walmart for $50. I am desperate need of help. Any suggestions?

My wife and I used to go to the indoor range once a week and the outdoor range once a week.
I'd go on Saturday and Sunday to the outdoor range & couple times a week to the indoor range.
We'd go through a couple of bricks (500 rounds)each every week.Sometimes double that.

When K mart (tells you how long ago this was eh?) or Dicks or anyone else would have .22lr on sale, we'd each pick up 10 bricks. Quite often we'd go back for seconds or thirds - or fourths.

I'd normally have between 50 and 60 thousand rounds on hand.

At work one day, a coworker commented on a news report where the cops had discovered a "Cache of 1000 rounds of ammunition" and said "Who needs that much ammunition"?

He about pooped when I told him I usually have ten to fifty times that at home all the time & we bought that much because it goes fast when you go out to shoot.

Decided to stop by a Walmart in a bit more rural area here (just 20 minutes from Downtown Norfolk) specifically to check for .22lr.
Bulk packs... 20'ish boxes of Rem Thunderbolt, 4 boxes of M-22.
50ct boxes... some CCI SV and Quiets.
100ct boxes... about 5 Minimags.

I've got plenty already, but it was interesting to see so much sitting there when the city-located-stores around here still have every shipment sucked up same-day.

Last week I found a real 'brick' of Federal Champion 40 grain solid .22LR for $27 at my local Fleet Farm.

There's been so many 'special offer' boxes of 333 rounds or 525 rounds or 1000 round 'buckets' that I thought the 'brick' (10 small boxes of fifty rounds each in a big box...you know a 'brick') was extinct.

I'd like to give credit to Fleet Farm for not gouging during the .22LR crisis. When they had it, they sold it at regular prices even though other stores were really marking it up. They did put limits on how much one person could buy and they sold out regularly so for a long, long while it was rare to see any on the shelves but I never recall seeing the super high prices some other stores charged.

Lets all hope it continues to come down closer to where it was 5 or 6 years ago. I remember then it was around fifteen bucks for 525 rds. at Academy when not on sale.

I did the same thing....Paid 5.6 cents a round out the door today at Academy. Federal American Eagle 40 grain solid (50 per box not 40 like some AE). Every single one of my 22's loves them.....Those and the Federal 510's are my go to ammo if I can find it.....Which means that if I see it and have a few bucks in my pocket a few boxes will come home with me. I always leave some for the next guy too!

Their gone in a week at our wally world. It's hard find 22lr around here for less than .10 a shot.
