I currently have a Glock 23 that is in good condition. I'm not a fan of the .40 cal as it is too punchy for me, and want to trade it for something else. I have a friend that is willing to trade either a Glock 17 Gen 2 with 5 mags or a Taurus Model 66 (mfd 1992) with a couple boxes of .38's. I shot .357 and 9mm and would be willing to go for either. Which would you choose or would you keep the .40? Thank you for your time.

edit: I'm also trading 150 rounds of Federal Hydra-shok and 250 rounds of range ammo with my Glock. I think I should sell the ammo separate from the trade.

If trading, I would take the Glock 17 over the Taurus 66 ...... but I would rather buy a 40-9 conversion barrel and 9mm magazine and maybe an ejector.

You can easily convert your 40 to a 9 with a simple barrel and magazine change

Depends on what you think the value of your pistol is if sold outright, vs how much his pistol is worth sold outright.

Ditto what Snyper said. Get a 9mm conversion barrel. Don't trade your Glock for a Taurus.

I would trade for the G17. I am not a fan of conversion barrels so as to buy big and shoot small.

You are the one who must be satisfied, which do you prefer a .40 or a 9 mm?then make your decision. I would not even consider taking a Taurus on trade.

I would trade for the 17 in a heartbeat. I absolutely love the Gen 2's. They just feel amazing in my hand. But it all comes down to what you want.

The only gun I ever traded for a Taurus was a Hi-Point. We still don't know who got the best end of the deal.

I would choose the Glock. But, the Taurus 66 wouldn't be too wild a disparity of value, assuming condition is good. Check it over well (http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57816).

Get a conversion barrel for the G23?

Unlike many I do not fear Taurus, I have a dozen hanging around here that get abused on a regular basis. That being said I wouldn't consider trading a Glock of any kind for a Taurus of any kind. Resale value is skewed way in the favor of the Glock.

I have owned many Taurus firearms over the years, so I am speaking from experience. Taurus quality has improved lately but they still have their work cut out for them. Like others have mentioned, keep the G23 and just buy a 9mm barrel or trade for the G17 with extra mags.

What generation is the 23?

The condition of the two firearms is a major factor. Was the 17 a LEO's firearm? Usually it's the gen 2 19 that is a LEO firearm, but I believe the 17 gen 2 was also used for that purpose.
