Does anybody have any experience with the FEG P9R 9mm pistol? Kind of looks like a Browning Hi-Power. Any comments good or bad are welcome! Thanks.

I know FEG makes several variants based on the BHP. I've owned the PJK-9HP for over a year (I assume its pretty similar) and I really like it. Reliable, accurate, good ergonimics. The trigger smoothed out nicely after a couple hundred rounds. I have not felt the need for a trigger job, even with the magazine disconnect intact. But I have polished some of my magazines where the disconnect hits them. The finish on the magazine has a significant effect on trigger feel. I put on a Hogue monogrip, but that's the only modification.

I also have the FEG APK, a near-clone of the Walther PPK. That has also proven to be a good pistol.

There are several other FEG owners at TFL (Dr. Rob, others?) and they generally say nice things. There is a nice article in the March issue of Combat Handguns.

Those pistols are well made and seem pretty good. The guns and parts are made from forged steel to proper tolerances and properly hardened. There is no sign of "file to fit". The only thing I have noticed is that they are a bit rough inside with sharp edges, machine marks and burrs. Once cleaned up (a job not necessarily a DIY unless you know what you are doing) they are very good. I would not remove the magazine safety, but I would lighten the spring a little and smooth up the rear and sides of the plunger as well as the hole in the trigger. With that done, and the front of the magazines polished, the safety becomes far less noticeable.

I believe that is the DA version. The model numbers change too often for me to keep up. If it is the Browning HP clone be glad you have it. Depending on which batch yours came from it may or may not need sights. My wife uses mine (okay she claims it) as a house gun, what greater praise can I give it? Before she came along it was my truck gun.

I also have a FEG APK, IMO it is better than a real Walther because mine has a mini-beaver tail (very mini, it a Walther wasn't beside it I'd have never noticed) just enough to cure Walther bite. And slightly better sights.

I own two of them and both are great shooters. Triggers took some smoothing out. Had to do a lot of filing and polishing to get the the mags to free drop on one. Not worth the effort on the other.

ak9, go to a gun shop that has BHP magazines and try a couple out in your pistol. I have several varieties for my PJK-9HP and only one brand (I think its a cheap USA mag) won't fall out. Official Browning mags, Mec-Gar mags, and the South African 17-rounders will all fall out.

I really like those 17-rounders. $29.95 (at last look) at http://www.cdninvestments.com

Greetings,

I owned one of these guns for a while. Traded it for a S&W 629-2. The P9R is double-action. The trigger is quite stout in DA and SA, but the SA pull is pretty crisp. Removal of the Mag safety is said to improve the trigger, but I traded mine before any modifications were done. The gun is very accurate. I still own an FEG SMC-380 which I am very happy with.

The P9R Mk 94 has a square-front trigger guard.

There are a couple of sites, one is in Hungarian, but has photos and links.

If you like a vented rib, Zanders has the FP-9 in stock.Mine is like the others, rough on the inside but a beautiful blueing job(with the exception of a small flaw above the trigger).:)
