Taurus PT22.

'Cause I met a pair of undercovers wearing them for back-ups.
Same role for mine.

Sig 224. It's smaller than my 226. I didn't have to learn a new trigger or manual of arms. Made for a really smooth transition. And I like it.

Kahr CM9. Perfect balance of conceal ability, reliability, comfort, and cartridge.

January 9, 2014, 03:03 PM
NAA mini-mag .22 magnum with folding grip....

WHY:
Because it is small and will fit in any pocket, even dress slacks.

note- it is often my backup or second gun, but sometimes it is all that is carried.
Even a 22mag being carried is better than being unarmed!

Ditto on the CM9; I carry mine with a full magazine (plus one in the tube) of 124 gr Remington Golden Saber. Holster rides in a Mika pocket model.Just feels "right".

LCP, six rounds of FMJ. Why? It's the only pistol that is truly comfortable to have on my body at all times regardless of what I'm wearing.

FN/Browning Model 1910 .380 since the 70's. No sights, hammer, angles or anything else to snag when taking out of the pocket. Also (the MOST important) 100% reliable.

If I'm not carrying a snub revolver it's either a Kahr PM9 6+1 with a 7 rnd spare or CW45 covert 5+1 respectively the spare mag holds 6. On the rare occasion I carry a Beretta 21a 7+1+7 of CCI Blazer.
And the reason is they shoot good and fit in my pocket.

LWS380 because it is the smallest and relegated to BUG status.

I can carry a PM9 or even a G26 IWB even in the hottest most humid summer so there is no need trying to find pants or shorts with huge pockets...

M&P Shield 9mm in a DeSantis SuperFly holster. 7+1 mag

Why is because it fits my pocket fine and draws as fast as an IWB with a tucked shirt.

Kahr PM9, since 2005. Utterly reliable, hits where I point, cycles with any 9mm, 9mm +p, 9mm +P+, FMJ, JHP...you name it.

Smaller than any j-frame, and hold two additional rounds. Reloads quicker, easier to carry, and...hold another additional two rounds.

I have a 642 and an LC9. The revolver is a little lighter than the LC, I actually shoot a little better with the LC. I'm more likely to carry the 642 in a pocket or in an inside the waist band holster, LC goes well in a coat pocket.

Almost always either a Ruger LCR .357 (5 shots) or a Walther PPS (7 shots) in my pocket. Occasionally the PPS in pocket and the LCR in a Kramer ankle holster. I forgo the pocket carry only if I decide to wear my P99c IWB.

DB9...because it shoots circles around my LCP (and a bigger bullet to boot).
If late in the day, Sig P290...because it has night sights.
If wearing pants/shorts with small pockets...DB380...also shoots circles around the LCP.
Late and small pockets.....LCP...because it has a laser, and it's better than a pocket knife.

DarthPete
January 10, 2014, 08:18 AM
Sig P238. It's slightly larger than other .380 options but I feel the trade off is worth it for the soft recoil, single action trigger and real sights. It looks great too. ;P
I also prefer metal guns, nothing against polymer.

NAA .32 Guardian if shorts or slacks - because it is truly "pocket size" (no holster at all), PPK if a coat or jacket (larger pockets). But I can carry the PPK just as easy as the Guardian if I clip a small IWB holster to my belt - but you stipulated pocket carry.

LCP.

No, it has no sights. Yeah, the trigger could be better. Yeah, it's hard to shoot well. No, 9x17 isn't an especially powerful round. Yeah, it takes practice.

All of that, too me, easily outweighed by the fact that it's so small and light I carry literally 100% of the time I legally can. I'm young, very social, and fairly fashion conscious. If my EDC choice significantly limited my outfits, I honestly probably wouldn't carry that much. The LCP lets me have both, as as long as I'm mindful of it's limitations - basically being going for only one small, low-power outburst of gunfire to get my butt out of trouble - it's a fantastic little gun.

Depends on the pants. In dress pants SW 642 in Mica carrier. In looser shorts or cargo pockets Glock 27 in Mica carrier. A lot depends on if I feel I will need quick access or just want to have a gun along. With long pants and not worry about quick draw ankle holster if not wearing a suit coat.

I've pocket carried an LCP with CT laser for about 3 years. It has been carried 100% of the time either as a bug or primary. As many others have already said it literally disappears in a pocket.
I bought a Kahr CW380 with CT laser recently. The LCP has been splitting time with the Kahr recently.

I have to admit that I carried a Jennings J-22 as my pocket carry for many years. As soon as the Kel-Tec P32 was released however I immediately upgraded. Last year I upgraded yet again, to a Kahr P380. However if I were still in the market I'd save the extra money and get the lower-priced CW380 instead.

BTW stmichps if you can actually hide that thing in your pants pocket I certainly ain't gonna be messing with you!

Wow..... Some big pistols in the front pockets.

For me,

I could never consistantly draw a "smaller" semi auto from a front pocket, with any semblance of reasonable speed.

And

It got MUCH worse when I tried to draw from a sitting position.

I am glad some folks have mastered this skill, i could not

I moved to IWB

From a sitting position, I'll admit that drawing my LC9 from my front pocket is....well, it ain't gonna happen! From standing, its easy using a DeSantis holster. Heck, I'm not going to be drawing any pistol out of my front pocket from a sitting position.

Sarge
January 13, 2014, 01:58 PM
I hear you on the 'pocket draw from sitting' dilemma. If it's cold enough to where I can stand to wear a jacket while driving, I zip the LCP into a pocket on the left breast of my Carhart barn coat. I've also considered one of those phone-case-belt-holster things.

dean1818
January 13, 2014, 07:30 PM
I would also add, what if you get jumped from behind and the fight is on the ground?

Forget about getting to that pocket pistol in that scenario as well.

Lay a semi auto nose down on a table. Lay an LCR nose down on a table.

You will see almost all semi autos have a sharp back corner that sticks up 3/4 of and inch over a rounded back of an LCR.

This sharp angle is what slows the pocket draw.

Look up the Tueller drill. Practice it...... You will be amazed how slow the pocket pistol comes out (unless you already have your hand on the pistol)

I found I could never pass the Tueller drill from a pocket carry (even standing up)

I know its not always about the speed of the draw, but I am sure that it COULD cause a problem for a CCWer.

I finally got to the point where I was honest with myself, and felt safer with IWB, after trying to make the pocket carry work.

DannyB1954
January 13, 2014, 08:59 PM
The trick about pocket carry is to be aware of your surroundings. Taken by surprize is not a good thing. with pocket carry you can stand up and put your hands in your pocket and nobody really knows what you are doing. If your wearing a jacket with pockets, even better.
That being said, I do prefer OWB with a SR9C, or Ruger SP101.

I guess I'll chime in too - and probably commit heresy in the process...

I carry a Bersa Thunder .380.
I've had it for 18 years now and guestimate about 6000 rounds through it.
It has never had a problem until recently (I shot some steel cases that I

Bersa fixed it under warranty and had it back to me in 7 days.

It works as well now as it did new.

Bodyguard 380. It's slim, has a solid feel, the grip fills my hand better than the LCP, has better sights than other pistols in its class, and has a great trigger. While some complain about the Bodyguard trigger, I really like it. I carried a model 60 and 640 for about 3 years, and the Bodyguard trigger is very similar to a revolver, while it is long, it is very smooth. Also, anything bigger than the Bodyguard like the Kahr PM9 is just too big to comfortably sit in a pocket, for me at least. As far as the laser goes, I would rather it not be there as I find lasers useless.

Before anyone says how could I compare it to an LCP since I live in Massachusetts and they are not on the roster, I have an LEO buddy who uses one as his backup/offduty gun. He has offered to get me guns not on the roster and transfer them to me, but I don't want to abuse his offer so I am holding out on something I really want.

A real pocket pistol? My Sig P290 was too heavy by half but makes a good very concealable holster CCW. Then son #2 found, bought and allowed me to try his S&W Bodyguard .380...and it is truly a great pocket pistol 'cept for the caliber...it's only available in .380 ACP. Mine's been through 400 rounds now with nary a bobble...handloaded HP's, factory FJM's, and SD Hornady rounds, makes no difference, they all feed and all will do less than 1.5" gps at 12 yds, from a modified Weaver Stance. It's got a laser under the barrel that's at least as good as the open sights...and far more useful at night. It's my daily, right front jeans pocket companion.

LCP, hollow points, 1 1/12 inch extended Garrison Grip. I have dropped it in my pocket and forgotten it's there. I don't worry about the sights, because in all the realistic training I've done with it, there's no time to even see the sights. The shots all hit center mass at 21 feet. I feel I can draw pretty well from the pocket, but the seated position did worry me. I bought a Galco IWB holster that I appendix carry the LCP in and the problem is solved. Not as comfortable as the pocket carry, but definitely more consistently accessible. I have an extra mag in a nylon knife sheath that I keep in my car, but rarely wear on my belt.

Kahr PM9 for me. It's reliable and very easy to conceal. I use it with an Alabama pocket holster and it conceals well no matter what I'm wearing. The PM9 is very small and light. The same qualities that make it super easy to conceal make it somewhat snappy to shoot. The PM9 is not a range gun. I much prefer shooting a Glock 26 or 27 but these guns are significantly larger and heavier than the PM9.

When I'm wearing loose fitting jeans or shorts I sometimes carry a Glock 27 in an Alabama pocket holster. The PM9 is much easier to conceal than the G27 but I find the G27 more fun to shoot.

When wearing pants that will handle the weight (i.e. jeans), my SIG P290RS (usually it rides in a tuckable IWB when I'm in a carry state). That is because it is my most accurate small gun. When wearing pants with deep pockets but I need something lighter it is my Kel Tec Pf-9 since it is so light (though it needs deep pockets since it is a little longer than the P290). In both cases, I prefer 9mm to the .380 or weaker usually found in true pocket guns.

When both the SIG and Kel Tec don't work it is either my S&W 442 or my Ruger LCP. The 442, while similar in size and bulk to the P290, is better concealed in a pocket because the rounded lines of a revolver look more like a bunch of stuff in your pocket than the sharp lines of an auto (so, even if it prints too much, most people won't realize it is a gun and not just an overloaded pocket). The LCP is tiny, incredibly thin, and very light. It is perfect (from a concealment sense) as a pocket gun and will conceal even in my lightest dress pants. However, I don't like the sights (or lack thereof), and I prefer a more substantial caliber, so it is the P290, Pf-9, or 442 over the LCP whenever possible.

Depends on the size of the pockets I have for the day in question.

Smallest to largest: NAA Pug, NAA Guardian 32, Kahr P380, Rohrbaugh R9, Sig P238, Kahr PM9, Sig P938, M&P 360, M&P Shield, Walther PPS.

The last 2 work better IWB I must say though...

Seecamp LWS-32. Small, light, made like a fine watch.

LCP, but it usually goes in an Uncle Mike's Size 10 IWB holster at 1:00. Barely feel it, and can comfortably sit down. If it's heavy coat weather it goes in a coat pocket.

Sig P239 in 9mm IWB. Because it's a SIG

I think you missed the point of this thread

....is now my sweet new Kahr P380. Before that was my Mustang Pocket-Lite and before that was my Sig P230. Yep, my BUG kept getting smaller.

These three jewels are small and very pocket-able and with today's ammo, they are also very potent.

I wouldn't go as far to call the 232 very pocket-able, I wouldn't even call it a pocket gun. I just sold mine when I got my Bodyguard 380 and realized I have no use for a .380 of that size. I got a Shield shortly after, and not only is the shield smaller than the Sig, it is lighter, chambered in 9mm, and holds just as many rounds. That's not to say that the 232 is not an awesome gun. I was shooting 1" groups with it on my good days off hand. I may get one again someday, but not in the foreseeable future.

LCP here. Of all the "pocket pistols" it fit my hand the best.

Granted, half of the time it finds itself in an ankle holster, but when I do drop a gun in a pocket holster, it is the LCP.

I have several pocket pistols. The two I carry the most are my beloved P938 with custom grips. Its light, small, reliable, night sights, great trigger, and accurate as a full size gun. It could be my one and only gun if nessisary.

With its factory rubber grips.

Next favorite and slightly smaller is the Bodyguard 380. Its a cool little gun with a integrated laser. Ultra light weight, thin, and reliable. Its also accurate with and with out the laser.

Finally is the NAA PUG 22mag. The smallest you can get. Smaller than a pocket knife yet still shoots 5 22mag PDX1 fairly accurate. The gun you carry when you can't carry a gun. Built like a Swiss watch.
I detest skinny jeans but if for some crazy reason you chose to wear them you could probably carry this little gun in your pocket.

I do have a S&W Shield that I don't consider it to be a primary pocket pistol but it could be with cargo pants or winter coat. Compared to my other true pocket pistols, its too big BUT its a "gray area" gun as far as I am concerned and many do pocket carry it. Its a great gun.

I highly recomend all the ones mentioned. I have enough rounds and carry experience with all of them to trust them with my life.

Hands down LCP for me in true pocket category. It's slim, light and does it's job perfectly. It's my awesome "better than nothing" gun.

The Bodyguard .380 wasn't for me. Looked a little cooler than LCP but too many rough edges and slightly bigger so I sold it.

The Sig P238 is the rock star in .380 class of pockets, IMO. I have both, the ss and desert models. SS is a blast for practice and very accurate, while non-ss lighter if a person wanted for carry. The 238 is just a little bigger and heavier than what I'd like for true pocket gun.

LCP's time on range is just to keep me comfortable with it. No real fun for me there. Perfect pocket gun though, IMO. It's my "throw in back pocket while I cut wood" gun and or a quick access gun by car lighter to supplement other guns on me or elsewhere in car. When I don't have time/clothes to carry larger caliber gun, it gets thrown in a pocket somewhere on me.

The only pistol I ever pocket carry is my Kahr P380 with Crimson Trace.
If you extend the list to revolvers then I'll add my S&W. 340PD.

11.4 oz of 100% reliability. Carry either Speer 135gr +P or Speer 135gr .357 when available. Lock has been removed and plugged. Carried in a Mika round cut IWB holster.
