Well, today was the day. I finally brought it home. I'm 24 years old, I dont make a ton of money but I work hard, even outside of my 40 hour a week job. I saved and saved. I brought it home today. What is it you ask? A Colt Series 70 Wiley Clapp edition. I couldn't be happier.

That is a really nice 1911. Be proud! The joy of high quality lasts much longer than the sting of cost.

Congrats, you spent the extra money for a very nice version of the Colt that should serve you, and your heirs, well for many years to come. Though not inexpensive, I doubt you'll ever regret the purchase...

A WC Colt at age 24 is a gun that will serve you until you're an old man and ready to pass it to your kids...

Great choice.

Shoot it, love it... it will return the favor.

Thanks everyone for the positive responses. I bought this and the guy at my LGS asked if I was going to shoot it. I told him that I am going to shoot it lots and carry it on my days off work (Guns are meant to be shot to me, if there was one that i would feel bad about shooting, it would be way out of my price range). Work doesnt allow carry in the building so I use one of the glocks through the work week. It doesn't bother me to throw them in the glovebox. But this isnt a thread about glocks. You can find plenty of those on TFL. Who else here carries a gov't model 1911? And pro's and con's?

Excellent choice. For the price, there probably isn't a better 1911 on the market right now than the Colt Wily Clapp.

bledsoeG19 - I've got a few years on you (I'm 67) and I came from a time long ago before plastic money and I-want-it-I'll-get-it-now. In those days of dinosaurs and dirt roads we worked hard and saved our money until we could pay for something in full and take it home. And Lo & Behold here's a 24-year old still doing it the same way.
You are the hope for tomorrow with your work attitude, and as a result you are reaping a just reward of a fine Colt. Be proud of that Colt, but also be proud of the way you got it. Enjoy the ride.

Thank you sir. I was raised by parents who instilled in me at a young age that if I wanted something I had to work for it. This gun is also a self reward for the promotion I earned at work. I'm very proud of the colt. It will be something passed down the family years from now with thousands of rounds through the tube and lots of holster wear (character). Always wanted a nice 1911. This will be the last one I purchase for a long time so I wanted to make it count.

Purr-T!!!:D

You asked about 1911's. Here's mine:

My 1911 Enhanced...it's been riding in a duty holster for many years; been on the firing line at Camp Perry, too. The pistol is over 20 years old, and was showing its age. I wasn't about to get rid of it--so it was time for a face lift:

Here it is--after Cerakote. Bottom line--even though I could carry another one, I choose the 1911--specifically ones with the nice horsey on the side.

I like the horsey. ;)

Think about how cheap it is per year you will enjoy it. Well worth it, don't you think? hat is how I convince myself to spend a little more.

Very nice, Bledsoe. That's a heckuva pistol.

And grizz is right. Colt's can become a habit.

Shoot it a lot and develop your skills.

And make sure and give us the 2,000 round update.

Thanks again everyone. I think this one will keep me occupied for a while. Im thinking the next one might just need to be built by my own hands. I have some rounds loaded up for. It. 200 gr LSWC on top of bullseye. I will work towards that 2000 round mark on monday.

By the way anyone in the southwest missouri area who want great cast bullets at a great price try GLC Hardcast. Best I've used by far. John is the owner's name. He's an awesome guy.
