.308 ARs are pretty neat, and the S&W M&P 10 looks like one I may be able to afford. If anyone here has encountered one, what do you think of them? How do they run, reliable?

I've kicked around the internet and the few comments I have found have been positive.

The one I handled/shot was a pretty neat rifle but I could just see myself spending big bucks for a fixed stock, optics, etc. and quickly double or tripling the price.

That's the 308 AR I want. Ambi controls, Melonite , 5 R barrel that's 18 inches long sounds great to me.

I would certainly add a nice optic and ruin the nice price, but I would get a bit of use out of it with backup irons before diving off that financial cliff. :)

I really like mine. Accurate and reliable.

Do normal sr-25 pattern magazines and accessories work with it?

My brother in law has one and it shoots nice. It does take sr25 pattern mags. He paid a little more than he should have $1500. The stock is ok but it really needs a free float handguard and buis for that price. The muzzle brake is kinda goofy looking. In that same price range you can pick up a dpms recon 308 that comes with magpul buis and a free float quad rail handguard.

The one I had here was quite accurate & not too heavy, as many .308 ARs tend to be.
Ambidextrous controls are nice.
If I were going to buy a .308 AR, it'd probably be the Smith.
