Fun with the SCAR 17

I was shooting mine yesterday and didn't realize how loud it was until the benches around me cleared out, the range officer sitting near me even commented that it was hard to read his magazine when I moved out of the baffle box to a standing position.

On another note, I had been shooting UMC and Australian M80 ball all day and for fun decided to run a box of Tula through it. I was really surprised when I shot a 5-6" group at 200 yards with it using a 1-6x SWFA SS.

I hear some people say never use steel case in a SCAR, but I can't understand why not.

I know the guy on Military Arms Channel uses steel case all the time and swears by the stuff.

Have you tried it without that muzzle brake on it?

I took it off of my 16s almost immediately. I found the muzzle blast to be more obnoxious than the recoil. I do understand that the 5.56 and 7.62 are different critters in a similar SCAR shaped package.

I haven't messed with my 16 or 17 other than the trigger upgrades...

I love shooting the 17, unfortunately lately it has been attracting a lot,of attention at the range.

Just took mine in to a local gun repair shop, etc Midwest Gun Works.

They are installing the Geiselle trigger I got for it, the rail extension I got recently and my aluminum Tapco butt stock latch.

Looking forward to running it with all the new goodies on it.

particularly the trigger.
