My LGS has a couple really nice Beretta knock offs in stock. Does Taurus produce these in the states ? I thought I heard they were building some firearms in the U.S. now. Or is that just a bunch of Hooey ?

Made in Brazil as far as I've always read. Their website would boast of it if they were USA-made. You could look there, but I recall mine was Brazilian--that's the Taurus price advantage.
To my knowledge, their only US-made guns are the tiny pocket ones, the .22s and .25s, and that's to get around the import restrictions from the 1968 Gun Control Act.
The Taurus Beretta knockoffs are some of their best products, and gunsmiths who work on Berettas can probably work on the Taurus PTs if need be. I actually like the 3-way frame-mounted thumb safety/decocker setup on the Taurus much better than the slide-mounted Beretta safety, and I think the DA pull is slightly less also.
