Ruger 10-22 are older ones better than new ones ?

I recently dug out my 10-22 made&bought in 1980...

I see many new ones all tricked out........

Thoughts ?

There is no difference in the reliablity. Ruger has upgraded the cheap cast aluminum trigger group and trigger guard with a much stronger plastic part. I have noted that the newer rifles made in the last 5 years or so are far more accurate than older guns. The last few I've fired were right with my CZ as far as accuracy is concerned. All together we have 6 in my family, the older guns are good or 1.5"-2" groups at 50 yards. I am having no trouble keeping 5 shots well under 1" and much closer to 1/2" with the 2 newer ones I have.

I absolutely loath the plastic trigger group/guard that came on my all-weather 10/22. I've had toy guns that had better.

You can make either one work if you know what you're doing. However, the aluminum housings are much less precise than the plastic housings. That's why the Kidd drop-in trigger group (one of the most popular trigger groups you'll see at major rimfire competitions) specifies that you use a plastic housing. The aluminum one is not sized or machined accurately enough.

This entire kit will drop into your Ruger 10/22 plastic trigger guard well within 20 minutes of disassembly and reassembly time committed to your trigger job project.

Any of the major 10/22 builders like Clark or Power Custom will be glad to sell you all of the take-off stock Ruger aluminum housings you desire for about $30 each. They're the first thing replaced on a nice custom gun.

Both of mine, one bought in 1989 and one bought in 2010 are plenty accurate for me, especially with CCI select or green tag. Either one will shoot around 1.5-2'' at 100yrds off my rest. The squirrel's and mountain dew cans dont stand a chance.

I bought a stainless 10/22 in the mid '90's...it is still a piece of crap.
