Looking for a good "lightweight" AR: Opinions on the DD -vs- S&W?
Any other AR's weighing close to 6-pounds I should consider? (not polymer)

Thanx, Dave.

I cannot say anything for these two particular models. I own a DD V4 and a M&P 15 (standard with removable carry handle). Both rifles are great. I would trust my life to either. Brother, that is a hard choice.... If you have the extra $ go with the DD, but I would not feel as if I had a second grade rifle with the M&P. sorry I am not much help..

Both are good choices, but I'd go with the Daniel Defense rifle.

I'd get the DD rifle, it's top quality gear.

Good luck. :)

If you can afford the Daniel Defense you'll never be sorry you chose it. I have a DD M4V3 LW upper and love it.

Agreed with the above; if you can afford it DD all the way.

Thanx Guys,

Funny how nearly everyone mentioned that the Daniel Defense gun was more expensive, but worth it.

Actually, the DD is listed at $20 cheaper (without sights) than the S&W gun (with sights). If I wanted to add sights to the DD, it's only $100 more than the S&W. But, that's relatively not a lot more, when we're talking about $1569-1669 for either carbine. (all numbers are MSRP)

It might be that since S&W offers a bunch of other economy versions of the M&P 15 at a lot less, that it seems like all S&W's would be more affordable than a comparable DD. But, the TS and the VTAC's are both pretty spendy!

Makes my decision easier though. If everyone recommends the DD, even if it were more expensive, then at approximately the same cost, it's a no brainer.

Thanx again, Dave.

The reason I said it is mainly because the M&P can be bought for quite a chunk less than MSRP. The DD will go just a little under MSRP. I love S&W, and in my opinion, they make a high quality AR. I love the fact that S&W forges their own parts in house. The TS is one of the best S&W's made. With the 1 in 7 twist, this makes this Smith more of the competition for the DDV7LW. Either will be a fine choice. See you might just have to do like me, just buy both ...lol. I seriously could not choose between my M&P15 or my DDV4.
