Has anyone managed to get one of these yet. I notice one of my local gun shops have the item listed but the website continues to list them as out of stock.

an STG 44 in .22lr would just keep reminding me i didnt have one in 7.92x33mm.. now if they made an exact copy of the STG in 7.92x33, or even 7.62x39, i would buy one in a heartbeat

Come and take it.

are these actually mechanically the same as the STG 44, or just a .22lr sporter made to look like one?

Good evening to all.
By what I understand, the .22 calibre version of the Stg44 is well made and is a good replica of the real rifle. It even weighs alot [the real one weighs in at eleven lbs]. Those that have handled them claim these are not cheaply made.
Now for my two cents worth:
Being the owner and operator of the PTR44 (semi-auto version of the Stg44), I can tell you the 7.92x33mm Kurz round has its own unique kick and signatory report. Because of this, the .22 version would be a letdown for me.
However, if this is as close as you can get financially to the real deal, and you are basing your appetite mainly on looks, I say go ahead and buy it.

It is most definitely just a look-alike. The .22lr doesn't have nearly the power to operate the type of action the original StG-44 had.
