Played with a LC9 at the LGS shop today and really liked it. I carry a LCP almost daily and really like it, would have gotten an LC9 earlier but didn't like the manual safety. However, after playing with it today, I think I could get by just without using the safety.

The thing is, is the SP101 is my ONLY revolver but then again, I barely shoot/carry it as I'm not much of a revolver guy and I know I would get alot more use out of the LC9.

I can't afford to just buy the LC9 and the SP101 is the only one I've got that don't fit a certain role for me. The shop said that they'd trade me straight across SP101 for LC9....I told them I'd sleep on it.

So.....should I just keep the SP101 since it's my only revolver or get the LC9 that I'd actually carry? :o:confused::)

NO!!!!!!!!!! If you already have a carry pistol then hang onto that SP101.

Don't do it. You'd be getting the short end of the stick.

A used SP101 for a brand new LC9? That seems like you are getting a decent deal. With that said, I wouldn't trade my SP for the LC9 but then again, I'm still a revolver fan.

I say if you don't shoot the SP go ahead and make the trade.

I'd have to say no. They wouldn't trade straight across unless they are coming out way ahead.

No question. Get the gun you will actually use. I wouldn't make the trade, but I'm not you.

Get the gun you will actually use

Not sure I would do that as an even trade myself, but there is something to be said for owning the gun you will actually use as opposed to one you won't.

The SP101 will be way more reliable than the LC9, but that won't do you any good if you're not carrying it. That said, I would keep the revolver and practice. Regardless, you need to do what you think is best for you.

I carry my LCP daily and love it as my backup gun. I sold my LC9. The mag disconnect safety finally did it for me. That being said, if you appreciate and want the LC9 safeties, you might as well get the gun you want.

Nope, I would not do it either. Sp101 is built like a tank. Price out an SP101 used in good condition. It will be more than three hundered dollars. Price out a used LC9 in used condition. I sold a brand new LC9 never fired and the most I could get for it was $220.00. Forget the trade. Sell the SP101 outright and you will have cash in your pocket after you buy the LC9. Then in about a month you can go back and buy the SP101 for around $575.00. I would not do it....

Oh buy the way I carry the LC9 everyday. I am not knocking the LC9. I just get tired of losing money. Yes I had two LC9. The SP101 is like driving a Cadillac. The LC9 is like driving a Corolla. Both good cars but they are both in a different class.

No.

Trade them the LCP plus cash if you gotta have the LC9.

I have a SP101 3", I'd never trade, but,.... I see an LC9 in my future.

This. I will bet five dollars american that you would regret trading that SP101 before the sun set.

NO!!!!

I've heard that the LC9 is not fun to shoot. YMMV

The only reason they would make that an even trade is because they are coming out way ahead in the deal. If you really want to make the trade get them to throw something else in with it. Holster, and extra mags.

Otherwise I wouldn't trade the SP in. Used it is worth more than LC9 is new. You might even be able to do better on the price on the LC9 by looking for one online at another local dealer.

If it were me. I'd keep the SP, and save up the money for the LC9.

I am with Kevin, keep the SP and save for the LCR. You will regret the trade, and the SP is worth more, and holds its value better.

The SP is like a Harley, its big, heavy, dated technology buy everyone wants one.......

I had an SP101 I sold to finance...something. I regret it. The only thing that makes me feel ok is it was a .38spl only version and I really wanted/want a .357.

I vote no. Trading anything you like even a little will result in regret later. And I don't think the LC9 is that great. If you were talking about trading for a Walther PPS that might be different. Probably a better straight trade deal for you as well.

My vote is a no as well. My bet is you will see your used SP for sale by the shop for more then the new LC9 within hours of the trade.

If I were going to get rid of the SP, I'd sell it outright. Then buy the LC9 and with the extra money maybe buy ammo, holster or some extra mags for the LC9.

Buy the gun you like and will practice with. In the end the only choice is YOURS

As soon as you walk out the door with the LC9, it's going to be worth half of a SP101. Just sell the SP101 to someone else instead of trading it to the store. Then you can buy the LC9 and still have money left over, so you aren't getting screwed just for sake of the 'convenience' of the trade.

Or, do as previously stated, and trade the LCP + some cash for the LC9 since they'll have the same purpose. Personally, I think the LC9 is far better than the LCP. Much easier to shoot, and it's a more effective caliber for PD.

I'd do it in a minute. IMHO the SP-101 is about the most useless revolver made. Too heavy, too big and 357's suck in short barrels. If I'm carrying a 357 it will be in a full size gun with a longer barrel that can take advantage of the round.

The LC-9 is more than an inch shorter, 1/2 lb lighter and holds 8 rounds vs 5. I'd not be surprsed if the LC9 didn't shoot 124 gr +p's faster than you can get 125 gr 357's out of a 2" SP-101.

I would never, but you aren't me.

I think you should have a pistol you want and will use.

What's a new LC9 run? You should be able to get $400 private for the SP101. Is that more than a new LC9? If it is, I'd sell the SP101 and buy an LC9.

Never trade a Ruger revolver! Just save your money and buy the LC9 when you can afford it.

IMO LC9 no good. I sold mine. That SP101 will last a life time over the LC9.

I seen lightly used GP-100's for $400ish and NIB SP-101 $430. A friend got a GP100 for $360, its a older model, but in well kept shape.

+1 SP imho is a better gun. more reliable and better trigger.

but its your call. Get what meets your need and what you will use.

I know alot of people love and covet thier SP101's but it's a love I have just never shared with the gun. If I'm carrying a small snubnose it's going to be a S&W Airweight in 38Spl.+P a gun that weighs over a half pound less and pocket carries very well. As for the LC9, mine now has well over 2000 rounds through it and never a missfire from day one. I replaced the sights with XS Sights Big Dot Express for my own personal liking . I got my LC9 after owning an LCP and have found it to fit most places and do what the LCP does and more. I love the trigger as it works very well for me. I'm not going to get rid of my LCP but it see's alot less use now that I have a LC9. As for the money thing dont trade, sell the SP101 and use the money to buy the LC9 and some ammo.

well, I'll see what I can get for the PS101 locally....if I can't sell it locally, it'll end up on here for sale. ;)

Keep the sp101, wait to buy the LC9. I got my LC for $299 in a retail store. I would like a sp101 also. When I can afford it I will get one. The advantage with the LC is the weight and width. The SP, a bit heavier, wider, but better in every other way. A true classic! Built as a Ruger should be, and great looks too. Oh, if you do not like the manual safety on the LC9, don't use it. It is there if you want to. Does your LCP have one? No it does not. No difference. I tend to like the option to use it, and it is not a big deal anyway.

On the one hand that's not a trade I'd ever make. On the other hand, I don't keep guns I don't shoot, so by that criteria if I were you I'd get rid of the SP101. I think you could do better by selling it and then buying an LC9, but do what works for you.
